Don’t you know that there are some prompt techniques to make your AI give it’s best response

As I have explained on my previous post about prompt. Now we are going to discuss about the techniques how to prompt. It can be illustrated as techniques in martial arts.

1) Zero-shot prompting

Ask directly, without examples.

Pros: Simple

Cons: The response is too general

Example:

“Explain Macroeconomy”

Best for: Quick tasks

2) One-shot prompting

Give 1 example

Pros: The output is more aligned with your style

Example:

“Rewrite this sentence professionally, sample :

Casual : Please fix this ASAP

Professional : “Could you please prioritize this task”

Now rewrite : ‘Check this quickly’

3) Few-shot prompting

Give more several examples. It’s the same as ‘One-shot Prompting’.

But at this technique, you give more than 1 example

Pros : the output is very accurate

4) Role prompting

Tell AI to response as someone

Pros : AI will replicate the Tone, Mindset, and Vocabulary

Example :

“Act as business consultant, and make analysis of this trend data”

5) Context prompting

Give the context background or situation

Pros : the output is more relevant with the expectation

Example “There have been conflicts happened for several years before this today incident”

6) Step by step prompting

Ask to response in steps

Pros : response provided in detail

Example : “Explain how to solve this problem step by step”

Best for :

• Troubleshooting
• Technical explanation
• Learning concept

7) Constraint based prompting

You set rules how AI to response

Example :

“Give description with less than 200 character, without technical terms and don’t use casual words”

8) Format prompting

You tell the specific format you want for the response

Pros : Response provided specifically match with the expectation

Example :

Provide the analysis comparison in table with column

Market Range | Education | Income Range | Population

Best for : Reports, work docs, etc.

9) Audience based prompting

Define the persona that will read the response

Example

“Explain this concept with simple explanation and illustration for elementary school student”

Pros : Adapt the tone and vocabulary to the audience

COMBO

However, we also can combine the techniques above become more powerful Prompt technique

Role + Context + Task + Format + Tone + Audience

Act as elementary school teacher

Context : The student felt difficulties in understanding the physics concept

Task : Make simple explanation about the big bang theory

Format : Short paragraphs

Tone : Friendly and interactive

Audience : Elementary school student
